The Challenge
This mobile app aimed to provide hyper-local weather information in a simple, beautiful interface. It was a project to explore cross-platform mobile development.
Approach
React Native with Expo allowed for rapid development for both iOS and Android from a single codebase. We used a third-party Weather API to fetch data based on the user's GPS location.
Roadblocks & Solutions
Managing location permissions and background updates for weather alerts on both platforms required navigating complex native APIs. Optimizing the app start-up time was also a focus.
The Outcome
The app was successfully published to the Expo Go platform for testing. It provides accurate forecasts and has a clean, gesture-driven interface that users find intuitive.
